Have you ever wondered why you drea at night? Have you ever had a bizarre drea that didn’t ake any sense? While scientists believe that everyone dreas, they are still unsure about why they do. A long tie ago, people believed that the dreas they had at night were real worlds that they entered and exited whenever they slept. We know today that this isn’t true but, for the ost part, dreas still reain a ystery.
Stages of Sleep
Each night, we go through five stages of sleep, the first of which is very light. You will wake up easily during this stage but, as you progress fro stage to stage, your sleep deepens and you becoe harder to awaken. The very last stage of sleep, the fifth stage, is called RE sleep and is the stage in which you drea. When your body reaches RE sleep, your brain releases a cheical that akes the rest of your body stay still. Soe scientists think that this happens so that we don’t act out our dreas and accidentally hurt ourselves.
What Dreas ean
Aazingly, scientists can only theorize about why we drea and what our dreas ean. Soe think that we drea siply because our brains don’t sleep in the sae way that our bodies do. They think that dreas occur because our brains are active and alert during sleep. Other scientists think that dreaing is ore coplicated and that we often drea in order to go over probles in our lives that need ore attention. According to these scientists, if you have the sae drea over and over again, it eans that you have a proble in your life that you haven’t yet solved. They also think that, since your brain is active at night, you ight actually be able to solve soe probles while you sleep!
Soe people think that they can interpret the eaning of dreas. It has been said that, if you drea you are falling, you ight be worried about soething, like a test at school. If you drea that you are flying on an airplane, you ight want to see a new place and, if you have “chase drea, “ a drea in which soeone or soething is chasing you, you ight be under too uch pressure during the day and ay doubt yourself. any inventors have said that the answers to their trickiest probles-and soe of their best ideas- have coe to the in dreas. any artists clai that the ideas for soe of their greatest works were inspired by their dreas. Xkb 1.co
While it is fun to try to interpret dreas, ost scientists agree that only the person who has had a drea actually knows what it eans. This is because dreas are ost likely a response to our daily thoughts and activities.
Soe people clai that they never drea, but scientists believe that all people drea for at least an hour during the night. The proble is that soe people think that they don’t drea because they can’t reeber their dreas. Even those who can reeber dreas often can only reeber the last drea they had before waking up.
Soe scientists believe that people only reeber ideas or events by repea ting the and, since we norally only get to experience a drea once, we don’t reeber any of our dreas well. Other scientists think that we can’t reeber any of our dreas siply because we are not awake during the but, if soeone were to wake us up during our dreas, we would reeber the dreas perfectly.
Try to reeber that your dreas can be fun. If you think about dreaing before you fall asleep at night, you ight be better able to reeber your dreas. If you keep a pen and paper at your bedside, you can write down your dreas as soon as you wake up, when you are ost likely to reeber the. If you do this, you ight be able to find eaning in your dreas.
70. Which of these best describes why soe people clai that they never drea?
A. They are ebarrassed by their dreas.
B. They don’t reeber dreas after they wake up.
C. They have scary dreas that they don’t want to discuss.
D. They don’t believe that dreas ean anything.
71. what does it ean if a person dreas about flying o n an airplane?
A. The dreaer ight be under pressure.
B. The dreaer ight be afraid of soething.
C. The dreaer ight be eager to see new places.
D. The dreaer ight be worried about school.
72. Which of these is a suary of the article “The ystery of Dreas”?
A. While scientists know soething about dreas, they still aren’t sure why we drea.
B. You can reeber your dreas better if you think about dreaing before you fall asleep.
C. Soe people think that if you drea you are falling, you ight be worried about soething.
D. The fifth and final stage of sleep, known as RE sleep, is the sleep stage in which people drea.
73. In paragraph 1, the word bizarre eans ________________________
A. strange. B. scary. C. brief. D. forgotten
