I was so touched and I felt I had to do soething. So, during y next trip to one of the nearby towns I walked into a shop. I didn’t have uch oney left yself but I thought I’d buy her an extra box of the uesli we both liked and soe rice. I started talking to the woan (also a volunteer) working in the shop and eventually told her about y friend.
The woan looked at e, aazed. “Does she eat pasta?” she asked. “Yes,” I replied. She iediately started loading a bag with pasta, cookies, and other things until the bag was full. “Give her this for e. On October 23, 1990, David Pologruto, a high school physics teacher, was stabbed (刺) by his sart student Jason Haffizulla. After receiving his B, Jason took a butcher knife to school and stabbed his physics teacher.
How can soeone as sart as Jason do soething so dub? Studies show there is little or no correlation between IQ and eotional intelligence.
During y early university years, I regarded yself as an intelligent guy. I got good arks in atheatics, physics, and other subjects. I thought such skills would surely give e a bright future. After one year of study with decent arks, I began to see two ajor classes of students. The second category of students were intelligent and hard workers who got good grades and were very focused on their studies. Surely would these inte lligent and hard-working students find the great jobs before the other lazier class of students?
Not so. Students are often shocked upon graduation that their qualifications are not as iportant as they once thought. Graduates enter the workforce only to realize that co-workers hate the and less intelligent people are the ones receiving prootions.
Educational skills are useless in soe industries when interpersonal skills are absent. You can have great ideas, theories, and solve coplex probles, but if you cannot effectively counicate in a persuasive and exciting anner by relating to your fellow huans, you will face an uphill battle in whatever challenges you encounter. icrowaves ay be great at waring up food, but what about waring people?
Using icrowaves to directly heat owners of a roo would save uch of the energy wasted by heating walls and furniture. And despite popular ideas about icrowaves, this technique would be safe, according to Charles R.Buffler of the icrowave Research Center in arlborough, New Hapshire. He found that low-power icrowaves only penetrate (穿过)the skin with no negative effects.
To test this idea, Buffler subjected hiself to icrowaves in a special roo using a standard 500-watt, 2459 Hz agnetron (磁控管). He found that a person will start to feel warth at about 20 kilowatts per square centieter (kw/sq. c); a satisfactory feeling of warth occurs between 30 and 50 kw/sq. c. By coparison, a person standing in noonday suer sun feels the aount of 85 kw/sq. c. And a frozen eat pie in your icrowave oven receives about 1000 kw/sq. c.
In houses of the future, each roo could be provided with its own agnetron, says Buffler. When you stepped into the living roo, for exaple, a otion detector (运动感应器) would turn on the agnetron, filling the roo with low-power icrowaves. In the sae way that a icrowave oven heats up a haburger, but not the plate it's on, you would feel warth fro the icrowaves without changing the teperature of your coffee table. (You could, however, ake your favorite easy chair even ore co fortable by treating it with a radiation-absorbing cheical.)
While it ight be soe tie before hoeowners are cofortable enough with the idea to set up whole-body icrowave heaters in houses, Buffler says icrowaves ay attract livestock(家畜) farers. Labs that are born outdoors in winter, for exaple, are frequently lost to cold. icrowaves could war the labs safely and quickly.
72. What's the passage ainly about?
A. A new heating syste.B. A new icrowave oven.
C. A popular technique. D. The agnetron.
73. Fro Para. 2, which of the following is NOT the characteristic of a icrowave heater?
A. It is safe.B. It saves energy.C. It directly heats people in a roo.
D. It heats walls and furniture in a roo.
74. The test shows that when a person feels cofortable warth, he receives about ________.
A. 20 kw/sq. c.B. 40 kwlsq. c. C. 60 kw/sq.c.D. 85 kw/sq.c.
75. Fro Para. 4, we can know that________ fills the roo with low-power icrowaves.
